I began to make handmade knives November 2003. I started out using the stock removal method of blade shaping. My first knife was a little full tang hunter with 6 brass pins holding the scales on. Needing a better method than using a blowtorch to heat blades for the heat treatment, I built a forge. With a running forge in my shop I quickly went out and purchased a cheap anvil and started forging blades to shape. I love the freedom forging offers in designing a blade. There is also much less grinding that has to be done to finish a knife. I exclusively use high carbon steel in my knife blades and currently favor 5160, 1095 and O-1. |

Be sure to stop into my knife photo gallery where I frequently post pictures of knives I have completed. Click on this section heading or on the image at the left to enter the photo gallery.
The knife to the left is a san-mai blade constructed of 1098 and 1018 steels forged together. The handle is lined with black stingray skin and wrapped with silk. You will notice that every knife in my gallery is completely unique. I do not use templates to produce identical pieces. Drop me an email and let me know what you think of them. |
